Penn Director of Rare Book and Manuscript Library to Speak at Advanced Networks and the Arts & Humanities Symposium

The Advanced Networks and the Arts & Humanities symposium will be held virtually with keynotes and breakout sessions being offered from several locations around the world from Philadelphia to Zurich. Host viewing sites will be available for interested faculty, staff and the community at several physical locations including Penn, Montgomery County Community College, Lehigh University and Bucknell University locally as well as in North Carolina, Texas and Ohio. Participants in host venue locations will be able to interact with presenters and each other through advanced videoconferencing technology throughout the symposium.

The keynote presentation will be offered by Sam Gustman, chief technology officer at the USC Shoah Foundation Institute who will speak about digital repository services. Additional breakout sessions will be given by Michael Bolton, director of community programs at the Opera Company of Philadelphia and Gary Galbraith, associate professor of dance, dance department artistic director at Case Western Reserve University, and Claudio Allocchio, senior technical director, Advanced Applications and Security GARR, Italy.

Advanced research and education networks, such as Internet2, offer higher education faculty, students and cultural organization staff unique opportunities to connect to an array of resources and to collaborate with partners around the world to enhance delivery of arts and humanities education and performing arts. This three-hour symposium is designed to give faculty and staff at advanced networking connected organizations around the world a sampling of the many projects and resources that exist and are available.

The Advanced Networks and the Arts & Humanities Symposium runs from 1- 4 p.m. EST. Registration is free but advanced registrations is requested if attending from a physical viewing location.
