Media Advisory: UC Berkeley to announce financial aid program for middle income families
ATTENTION: Reporters covering higher education, the economy, and social and public policy
WHAT
A media briefing at the University of California, Berkeley, to announce a new financial aid program to make the campus more affordable for middle-class families. Campus officials say this is the nation’s first program of its kind at a public university.
WHEN
10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14
WHERE
Haas Clubhouse inside Haas Pavilion, near the intersection of Dana Street and Bancroft Way
WHO
- Robert Birgeneau, UC Berkeley chancellor
- George Breslauer, executive vice chancellor and provost
- Frank Yeary, vice chancellor
- Harry Le Grande, vice chancellor for student affairs
- Anne De Luca, acting associate vice chancellor for admission and enrollment
- Rachelle Feldman, acting director of financial aid
DETAILS
While UC Berkeley has a long history of financially supporting low-income students to ensure access to the top public university in the United States, middle-income families are being increasingly squeezed by a poor economy and high jobless rate. In response, UC Berkeley is establishing a unique program that expands upon prior efforts to make UC Berkeley more affordable for middle-class families and increases access for students across the socioeconomic spectrum.
