Media Advisory: Physics Nobelist Saul Perlmutter to speak at reception today

A celebratory reception for Physics Nobelist Saul Perlmutter hosted by the University of California, Berkeley, Department of Physics.  Perlmutter, 52, a UC Berkeley professor of physics and a faculty senior scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and fellow scientists will discuss their research and answer questions.

DETAILS:

Perlmutter, UC Berkeley’s 9^th Physics Nobelist, led the Supernova Cosmology Project that, in 1998, discovered that galaxies are receding from one another faster now than they were billions of years ago. He shares the prize with two other scientists who competed with Perlmutter’s team for the discovery. One of those scientists is former UC Berkeley postdoctoral fellow Adam Riess, who was working at the time with campus astronomer Alex Filippenko. Filippenko has been a member of both teams.
