Genecin to serve fourth term as director of University Health Services

Paul Genecin, who has been director of University Health Services since 1997, will begin another five-year term in that post beginning July 1, President Richard C. Levin announced.

Noting that there was "enthusiastic support" for Genecin’s reappointment, Levin notes, "[A]ll agree that the organization has been transformed under his dedicated and thoughtful leadership. Those who work with Genecin call him an exceptional listener who is willing to tackle difficult issues. He cares deeply about his staff, his patients, and the wider University community, and has effectively engaged each of these constituencies."

Genecin, who also is also associate clinical professor of internal medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, orchestrated the complex move to the new state-of-the-art Yale Health Center at 55 Lock St. "with virtually no disruption in patient care," noted Levin.

The National Committee for Quality Assurance recently recognized Yale’s health service as a model of 21st century primary care, awarding it a perfect score for its accomplishments as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. Genecin has credited the hard work of his employees in attaining this recognition.

In the years ahead, Genecin and his colleagues will aim to enhance their attention to patient experience at Yale and to keep the University on the cutting edge of excellent and innovative health care delivery in the ever-evolving health care reform environment. Another priority, notes Genecin, will be to strengthen relationships and collaborations with Yale partners including the School of Medicine and School of Nursing.

"The Yale community is fortunate to have the services of such an outstanding leader," concluded Levin. "I know that you join me in thanking Genecin for his willingness to serve for a fourth term as director."
