Elizabeth Sellers appointed deputy director of Los Alamos National Laboratory; Bechtel to announce new appointment for Ike Richardson next week

Beth Sellers comes to the Laboratory with nearly 30 years of management experience working for the U.S. Department of Energy and private industry, leading the integration and improvement of large, complex, and technically diverse environments. "Beth brings to us a stellar record of energy, accomplishment, and integrity," said Laboratory Director Charlie McMillan. "She’s worked throughout the national security enterprise and gained a deep understanding of our missions and how best to accomplish them. Having managed DOE contracts from Richland and Idaho Falls to Kansas City and Albuquerque, she sees the big picture from our main customer’s perspective and also has a mastery of the details." Most recently, Sellers was a senior vice president for AREVA Federal Services in Bethesda, Maryland. There she led program development and execution for the unit of AREVA North America that serves DOE and its subcontractors in all phases of the nuclear fuel cycle. Before that, Sellers was an Abu Dhabi-based principal with Good Harbor Consulting, a global provider of safety, security, and risk management consulting services to government and private-sector clients. From 2003 to 2009, Sellers managed DOE’s Idaho Operations Office in Idaho Falls, which oversees Idaho National Laboratory. There she led a rigorous restructuring of the contract management and oversight functions, which, along with other accomplishments, earned Sellers in 2007 a Meritorious Presidential Rank Award for exemplary federal service. Prior to her assignment in Idaho, Sellers managed NNSA’s Kansas City Site Office from 1999 to 2003, responsible for oversight of the Kansas City Plant. Previously Sellers was director of DOE’s spent nuclear fuel environmental management project in Richland, Washington, from 1995 to 1999, and brings valuable environmental management expertise. She began her DOE service at the department’s Albuquerque Operations Office, where she worked from 1983 to 1995, starting as Defense Programs program manager. Sellers later served as manager of environment, safety, and health for the Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project and, finally, as director of the Environmental Restoration Division. Sellers earned a bachelor of arts degree in English literature from the University of Alabama and a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of New Mexico.
