A team of Penn State College of Medicine staff have been awarded the 2011 Penn State Administrative Committee on Research Collaboration Award for their collective efforts in implementing and managing the NIH Data Coordinating Center for the NHLBI Network (AsthmaNet). The Department of Public Health Sciences received a $54 million grant in 2010 as coordinating center of AsthmaNet, a research collaboration of multiple clinical centers across the nation that conducts clinical trials to address new treatments and asthma management.

Recognized were Doug Gray and Ron Zimmerman, Department of Public Health Sciences; Jill Wagner and Karen Robey, Office of Technology Development; Barb Suchanec, Mike Yarnell, and Cindy Brubaker, Office of Research Affairs; and Michele Stanton and Terry Novchich, Clinical Trials Office.

In a letter of nomination, Sheila Vrana, associate dean for research, said that the team successfully built relationships with study sites, developed uniform contracts, managed multiple material transfer agreements and implemented regulatory and monitoring requirements.

The group was recognized at the Administrative Committee on Research Retreat held at University Park on Sept. 16.
