Bob Patterson named associate dean, director of admission
At Stanford, Patterson will direct the daily operations of the admission office and play a key role in shaping the overall direction the university takes with respect to its admission initiatives and programs.
BY ELAINE RAY
Bob Patterson, deputy director of undergraduate admissions at the University of California-Berkeley, has been named associate dean and director of admission at Stanford.
At Berkeley, Patterson has been responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the admissions office and overseeing the creation and implementation of a new online reading tool for the review of more than 50,000 applications and more than 15,000 transfer applications.
Prior to his arrival at Cal in 2009, Patterson served as associate director of undergraduate admissions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also spent several years in admissions at the University of Pittsburgh.
"Bob brings significant and comprehensive experience in managing complex organizations, and we are excited that he will be joining Stanford’s Office of Undergraduate Admission ," said Rick Shaw, dean of admission and financial aid, who made the announcement earlier this month.
At Stanford, Patterson will direct the daily operations of the admission office and play a key role in shaping the overall direction the university takes with respect to its admission initiatives and programs, including outreach, multicultural programming, international admission and intercollegiate athletics, and the composition of each freshman and transfer class.
Patterson will begin his new job at Stanford on Sept. 13. He succeeds Shawn Abbott , who left Stanford last spring to become assistant vice president for undergraduate admissions at New York University.
