At least 3 years post-doctoral research experience is preferred. Candidates for tenured appointments must have record of excellence in research, teaching, and service.
Tenure or Tenure-track position in biological or physical science department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (www.discovery.wisc.edu) invites applications for faculty openings in Epigenetics. Our interests encompass, but are not limited to, exploring how alterations in normal gene activation and silencing lead to tissue dysfunction, cancer, autoimmune disease, and neurodegenerative, respiratory, and behavioral disorders. The WID epigenetics theme will focus on the molecular, chemical and physical basis underlying epigenetic mechanisms and will serve as the physical and intellectual center on campus that will catalyze interdisciplinary collaborations involving basic and translational research in epigenetics. Opportunities are available at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Successful candidates will occupy space in a new state-of-the-art and centrally-located WID research facility specifically designed to support cross-disciplinary collaborations. WID is the public half of Institutes that will promote basic research and facilitate the translation of new discoveries to practice. Each successful candidate will be appointed to the department of the University that most appropriately matches his/her excellence and interests. The candidate(s) will be expected to (1) develop a vigorous, independent research program, (2) attract and maintain extramural funding for his/her research program, (3) teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses and develop new courses in the area of expertise as appropriate, (4) supervise graduate student and post-doc research, (5) participate in faculty governance activities in the department, college and/or University, and (6) actively engage with the national and international scientific community. The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a world-class academic institution with an international reputation for basic, applied and cross-disciplinary research. It attracts scholars and students at all levels from around the world. Nationally, UW-Madison ranks fourth among all U.S. universities for research and development expenditures, exceeding $950 million annually. The University has a deep culture of collaborative interdisciplinary research, reflected recently by major grants such as the $150 million DOE Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center award (2007) and the $50 million NIH Translational Medicine award (2007). Interdisciplinary and translational mega-centers that are positioning UW at the forefront of collaborative research include the Microbial Sciences Building (2007), the School of Medicine and Public Health’s Interdisciplinary Research Complex (2008), and the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (opening Fall 2010).
