UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA FACULTY OF MEDICINE POSITIONS FOR REGENERATIVE MEDICINE The Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba is developing a new priority program in Regenerative Medicine. We have secured six tenure-track faculty positions and have developed 18,000 sq. ft. of new state of the art research space for this program. Stem cell research at both the basic and clinical levels has been identified as the major component of this program. Departmental affiliation will be at the choice of the incumbent. Position # 08498 and 08499. We are inviting applications for two new positions from scientists who have completed their postdoctoral training or from recently established scientists who have developed an ongoing research program. The candidates must have a PhD and/or MD with strong demonstrated expertise in stem cell research. The new recruits are expected to teach in, and to develop a rigorous and independently funded research program in Regenerative Medicine. The appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We are especially interested in you if your work is focused on stem cell biology with relevance to human disease, tissue remodeling and/or if you are clinician scientists with a strong translational component. Our research program is dedicated to the understanding of how stem cells work, how they are regulated, how they differentiate, and how these processes may be controlled in health and disease. Salary and the rank of the incumbent will commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Regenerative Medicine Program is located at the centre of the Health Sciences Centre campus and hospitals. Successful candidates will have access to expertise in core technologies such as gene targeting, high throughput screening, cell sorting, animal modeling and functional assay systems including (1) cell sorting to purify stem cells for genetic or biochemical analysis, or for clinical trials, (2) gene targeting to genetically alter stem cell populations or to mark stem cells for tracking in the body, (3) RNA interference technology to test the effect of specific genes in stem cell replication and differentiation, (4) animal modeling to create mice or larger animals for pre-clinical testing including animal pathology services to evaluate the results of pre-clinical testing, (5) state-of-the-art cell and animal imaging facilities including functional imaging, (6) high-throughput screening for small molecules that might influence stem cell behavior or that may activate stem cells in vivo.
