Purpose of Position Position performs cardiovascular engineering research in the Cardiovascular Engineering Laboratory (CEL), directed by Dr. Aaron Baker and housed in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. This lab utilizes engineering, science, technology and medicine to solve problems in cardiovascular biology and human health.
Essential Functions Examining the biological mechanisms involved in the formation of the vascular response to injury and formation of in-stint restenosis, including extensive work with novel animal models, cardiovascular disease, and clinical intervention, as well as mechanistic work using cell culture and molecular biology techniques. Culture/isolate vascular cells, western blotting, lintiviral protection, and molecular cloning, PCR and immunohistochemical analysis. Grant-writing, progress reports, manuscript writing and editing.
Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned.
Required qualifications Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, chemistry, biology, or related and have strong laboratory and analytical skills. Require a background in vascular biology, mechanobiology, drug delivery or cardiovascular devices.
Preferred Qualifications Previous experience with animal research and/or practical molecular and cellular biology. Significant experience in one or more of the following techniques will be preferred: cell culture/cell biology methods (Western blotting, PCR, immunostaining), molecular biology/molecular cloning, characterization of drug carriers/delivery devices, analytical techniques for biophysical studies and animal surgery/handling.
