Minimum of 8 years of medical physics experience in a healthcare environment, 3 or more years in a leadership or management position. Candidates for associate or full professor rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the tenure track
Principal duties:
The Department of Human Oncology (DHO) is an interdisciplinary department within the School of Medicine and Public Health with missions of clinical service, research and teaching. The DHO fosters excellence in basic, translational and clinical research and houses 27 faculty members and over 150 total clinical and research staff members. The Chief Physicist will be responsible for leading all UW Radiation Oncology Physics services, including those at outreach facilities, and for insuring quality and safety in the delivery of radiation therapy to patients. He or she will insure that all required quality assurance, inspections, calibrations and verifications are performed, and maintain compliance with radiation regulations including federal, state, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program. The Chief Physicist will provide leadership and supervision to members of the physics and dosimetry staff, as well as provide physics support to UW clinical trial activities. The successful candidate will guide future growth of the Radiation Oncology Physics program, supervise junior faculty and students, and play a lead role in facility and technology development. He or she will provide group leadership and engage in research activities and peer review publication to help facilitate extramural funding. The successful candidate will foster and expand ongoing research and education collaborations with the UW Department of Medical Physics. The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank.
