Position: Postdoctoral ScholarWe are pleased to announce the availability of a minority fellowship/ post-doctoral position at the Center for the Advancement of Pediatric Health (CAPH) at the University of California-Irvine (UCI) and Department of Pediatric Psychology at Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC). This notice details an excellent opportunity for a candidate with interest in receiving mentoring in conducting new, cutting-edge research in pain, stress, and anxiety in the context of medical procedures. CAPH is a collaborative group from diverse areas in psychology, medicine and integrative medicine. The successful candidate will be trained in conducting cutting-edge, collaborative research in medical settings. Excellent mentoring will be provided by Drs. Zeev Kain and Michelle Fortier who are recognized international experts in the management of anxiety and pain of children undergoing invasive medical procedures. Dr. Kain has been extensively involved in training medical fellows at the national level. Many fellows who have trained under Dr. Kain are currently faculty with federal funding and are on their way to becoming future leaders in pediatric pain and psychology research. Mentoring in all aspects of conducting a successful research program will be provided. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in research design and planning, practical implementation of research studies, planning meetings designed to strategize funding opportunities for various studies undertaken by our research group, and participation with the research team in data analysis and writing up of research, including dissemination of research findings. Educational experiences are part of this position, including opportunities to attend a number of medical school-sponsored lectures about a wide variety of topics related to clinical research, patient care and the perioperative environment. We are looking for a bright, motivated person who works well with other professionals from a variety of disciplines. Bilingual/Bicultural Spanish speaking applicants are strongly encouraged to apply, given CHOC’s high percentage of monolingual Spanish speaking patients and multi-cultural patient population. Candidates from minority and diverse cultural backgrounds are also highly encouraged to apply as this position will be combined with a minority grant from the NIH.
