Department of Computing and Software Tenure-Track Position - Assistant or Associate Professor Level
The Department of Computing and Software at McMaster University seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position. The appointment is intended to be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Applicants with a doctorate in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or a related area) at the time of appointment are encouraged to apply. The Department is primarily interested in hiring a researcher in Systems — particularly in Databases, High-Performance Computing, Networking, Operating Systems, or System Security — but exceptionally strong applicants in other areas will be considered seriously. Interest in medical applications would be a plus.
Founded in 1998, the Department of Computing and Software has undergraduate and graduate programs in Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering. The application of theory to practical problems is a major theme of its research programs. McMaster University is in Hamilton, Ontario. It is ranked as the fourth university in Canada in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. A city of one half million people, Hamilton is located on Hamilton Harbour at the western end of Lake Ontario, 45 minutes east of Toronto and one hour north of Buffalo, New York. The city has a unique topography dominated by the Niagara Escarpment; over 100 waterfalls (with heights up to 41 meters) are within its boundaries.
Potential to develop a strong research program and become an excellent teacher is crucial. Successful candidates will be expected to attract external research funding, pursue industrial collaboration if appropriate, actively recruit and supervise graduate students, and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Registration or eligibility for registration by the Professional Engineers of Ontario will be considered an asset.
