DESCRIPTION: As Director of the Center for Advanced Technology (CAT), the successful candidate will teach scientists to use shared instrumentation for high-throughput biology, including microarray fabrication, microarray hybridization, microarray scanning, high-throughput liquid handling, and yeast mating; assist scientists in designing experiments that make the best use of the instruments and produce interpretable results; assist scientists with data analysis; manage the facility budget and cost recovery for instrument related expenses; maintain the facility website and on-line calendar for shared instruments; keep all instruments in good working order; debug problems with instruments; write new protocols and documentation for projects and method; interact with instrumentation companies to foster new collaborations, demonstration, or beta tests; and seek advice for new directions for the Advisory Committee on a semi-regular basis.
REQUIREMENTS: PhD in molecular biology or related field; strong communication skills, both written and oral; excellent teaching abilities for all levels of students; strong technical background in the design, implementation, and use of scientific instrumentation; and basic web design and database administration. Proficiency with at least one computer programming language (e.g., perl, PHP, Java, etc.), and basic mechanical and electrical engineering aptitude are desired.
