Position Information
Facilitate operations of the Citrus program of the National Clean Plant Network (CCPN) that produces and distributes pathogen tested citrus propagative materials. This position will support the disease testing and therapy processes and address technical inquiries from stake holders, and will develop literature and a web site describing program activities, and a secure web site to support the CCPN activities. The Assistant will assist in all aspects of meeting logistics and reporting. This position will provide design and documentation support for network performance audits.
Minimum Requirements
Laboratory & Greenhouse research and Management a. At least 4 years of work experience in a research laboratory where performed independently sterile molecular and protein techniques, such as the construction of plasmid vectors, quantitative PCR or SDS PAGE. b. Experience in business or office management including meeting management. c. Must be willing to travel and must be willing to adjust work schedule to accomplish workload. Communication Skills a. Skill in communicating effectively and professionally using tact and diplomacy. b. Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. c. Ability to invite information, constructive criticism, and cooperation from others. Stake holder Service a. Skill in interacting diplomatically with the public in a high volume, continuous public contact setting and coordinating complex administrative activities by determining the time, place and sequence of actions to be taken. b. Ability to work effectively as an individual, a team member, and with diverse groups. c. Knowledge of principles of pathology with a particular emphasis on virus diseases and their control. Organizational Skills a. Demonstrated skill in accurate record keeping with strict attention to detail, organize and maintain efficient files and records. b. Ability to manage time effectively to accomplish multiple tasks under time constraints. PC Skills-general a. Demonstrated skill in editing and formatting documents in word processing applications. b. Demonstrated skill in creating spreadsheets and reports using appropriate software application. c. Demonstrated experience using e-mail messaging and automated calendaring systems. d. Knowledge of current web applications and technologies. Problem Solving a. Skill in independently researching questions and making appropriate contacts for problem solving. b. Skill in establishing rapport, gaining the trust of others, and maintaining equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, or hostility. c. Skill in making appropriate job decisions following established policies and past practices. Writing Skills - General a. Demonstrated skill to independently draft letters and memos for signature or review by supervisor/manager, using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, composition, text editing, and proofreading skills. b. Demonstrated skill to independently draft correspondence pertaining to the operations, policies, and procedures of the functional area. c. Demonstrated ability to author scientific text. Education a. Bachelor or Master degree in plant pathology, plant sciences, biology or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
(1) Working knowledge of mathematics, including the ability to perform basic data analysis and budget calculations.
