Summary Description: The School of the Arts MFA Writing Program seeks to appoint an Assistant or Associate Professor of Writing (tenure track research faculty) or an Assistant or Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Writing to teach literary translation and to direct Literary Translation at Columbia (LTAC) beginning Fall 2012. The Program seeks candidates who are either literary translators or writer/translators of fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. The responsibilities of the director of LTAC include collaboration with the Program Chair on course development, student advising, special events, expanding LTAC’s presence in the field of literary translation, and acting as adviser to the School’s global programs. The Writing Program aims to attract literary translators and writer/translators with significant publications at the national level who are experienced and dedicated teachers. Salary and rank is commensurate with experience. Review of applications will begin immediately, and continue until the position is filled.


Minimum Qualifications: At least 2 to 3 published full-length works of translation are required. A strong commitment to teaching must be evident. Candidates for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Writing (tenure track research faculty position) must have demonstrated and show promise of the capacity for creative work and accompanying pedagogy qualifying them for future nomination to tenure. Graduate and undergraduate teaching experience required. Candidates for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Professional Practice in Writing position must have demonstrated and show promise of continuing to make significant contributions to their areas of professional practice and accompanying pedagogy. Graduate and undergraduate teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
