The University of Washington is seeking to fill a full-time, tenure-track position at either the associate or full professor level for a master acting teacher with a national reputation to head its prestigious Professional Actor Training Program (PATP). Salary competitive and commensurate with qualifications. MFA in acting or directing or equivalent experience. Extensive professional experience required. The Head of Acting will be responsible for recruiting students, overseeing faculty and curriculum, administering the PATP, and shaping the School’s artistic vision and pedagogy. The School of Drama is committed to innovative research, training, and performance. Our students will continue to take their place in the world as artists, scholars, and citizens. We are committed to excellence and innovation which allows us to continue meeting and exceeding the challenges of an increasingly diverse and evolving world stage. Responsibilities include teaching in-depth studio classes for actors; coaching original, self-generated works and professional-level auditioning; directing in the season; and teaching in the BA program. Desirable qualities include a background in solo performance and the creation of original works as well as experience in both screen and theatre acting. Participation in academic administrative work including season planning and committees is expected as well as other forms of service and duties typical of a faculty position. As a UW faculty member, the candidate will continue to practice his/her professional career, which the School accommodates in scheduling.
