Tenure Track Assistant Professor Position Department of Physics and Astronomy University of Manitoba The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in experimental subatomic physics at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department has research programs of international caliber in experimental subatomic physics that are currently based at TRIUMF in Canada and at Argonne, Jefferson and Oak Ridge National Laboratories in the United States. Our current research interests include: • low energy precision tests of the Standard Model using parity-violating electron scattering, trapped atoms, and trapped ions; • precision mass measurements of unstable nuclei of relevance to superallowed beta decay tests and nuclear astrophysics; and • weak interaction studies with cold and ultra-cold neutrons. More details about this work can be found at: www.physics.umanitoba.ca/subatomic .
Applicants must have a doctoral degree, relevant postdoctoral experience, and an established record of publication in leading journals. Candidates are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. They will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, to supervise graduate students, and actively participate in service to the Department, and wider academic community. A proposed research program that enhances the research efforts of the existing subatomic physics group would be an asset. Applications must include a curriculum vitae, a highlight of significant research accomplishments, an indication of short and intermediate term goals of the proposed research program, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, and an estimate of space, infrastructure, human resources, and start-up funding requirements. Review of applications will begin December 15th, 2011, and will continue until the position is filled. Complete applications, together with contact information (including email addresses) for three referees, should be sent to: Dr. K.S.
