Earned doctorate in English/Language Arts Education or a related field with a research focus on English/Language Arts Education.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Must hold a tenured faculty position in an education or education-related department; and must have an outstanding publication record of nationally recognized quality. Commitment to social justice and equity in schooling; experience working with diverse populations; and experience teaching at the middle or secondary level desired. Candidates must meet criteria for a tenured faculty appointment at UW-Madison.
Principal duties:
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks a faculty member in the area of English/Language Arts Education. The position is at the tenured full professor level. The faculty member is expected to engage in nationally recognized research and scholarship, and teach courses and advise students in the Secondary English/Language Arts teacher preparation program. The faculty member also will advise master’s and doctoral degree students and teach graduate courses on topics pertinent to Secondary English/Language Arts Education. We are seeking an individual with a commitment to collaborating with local schools on issues of significance to both theory and practice. The position’s endowment will provide an annual stipend to support the faculty member’s research. Secondary English/Language Arts Education is part of a broader Languages and Literacies Area within the department. The area emphasizes sociocultural approaches to languages and literacy. In addition to Secondary/English Language Arts Education, this area includes programs of study in reading and English/Language Arts for undergraduate teacher education at the elementary level, Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist licensure programs, as well as master’s and doctoral level coursework. Engage in an active program of nationally recognized research and scholarship 2 . Collaborate on coordination of the Secondary English/Language Arts Education program 3. Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in English/Language Arts Education 4. Advise graduate and undergraduate students 5. Provide local, state and national leadership in English/Language Arts Education 6. Participate in faculty governance and other committee activities 7. Engage in collaborative work with local schools 8. Provide service to the university and community as appropriate
