Position Information
Under the direction of the Department Chair, the Instructional Lab Manager (Principal Laboratory Mechanician) will oversee the Mechanical Engineering Department’s instructional labs. The duties include: (1) ensuring lab safety and serving as the department’s lab safety officer (LSO); (2) supervising the operation of the instructional labs including, but not limited to, maintaining the facilities and experimental equipment; (3) repairing laboratory equipment; (4) developing new laboratory experiments and classroom demonstrations; (5) designing and purchasing laboratory apparatus; (6) assisting instructors, including faculty and teaching assistants, in the use of the instructional laboratories for teaching; (7) assisting instructors in providing classroom demonstrations; (8) assisting students in the use of the labs for learning; and (9) serving as an engineering consultant to the faculty in the design, fabrication, and operation of instructional laboratory equipment. The instructional lab facilities are critically important to the educational mission of the Department. The position is a 75%-time Career Position with 30 hour work week.
