Advises the Dean on issues related to the basic research enterprise of the Carver College of Medicine (CCOM). Works closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Science and the Executive Dean, as well as other Senior Staff to facilitate and promote the research endeavors of the Carver College of Medicine faculty. Works with the Dean, Associate Deans and Department Executive Officers and consults with faculty to establish short-term and long-term priorities for the research enterprise. Implements the College research agenda based on the strategic plan. ; Oversees Core Facilities in the CCOM ; Coordinates use of CCOM ?wet-lab? research space on the main (health sciences) campus and the Oakdale campus ; Works closely with the University Veterinarian to coordinate the use of animal care space and resources ; Works closely with the University Vice President for Research in matters related to research productivity ; Is the responsible official in the College in matters related to scientific integrity ; Coordinates, with the Dean, communications with the Carver Trust and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute ; Works closely with Office of the Vice President for Research and the Institutional Review Board office to review all conflict-of-interest issues ; Oversees grant and contract administration in the CCOM to facilitate and support the sponsored research, clinical service and training programs of the College. Ensures that the Office provides timely announcements on both internal and external funding opportunities, as well as policy changes that affect the conduct of sponsored progress. ; Works in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Science to coordinate College-wide efforts in new research ventures. ; Maintains an active extramurally-funded research program Establishes and maintains standards of collaborative interaction among peers and employees that is charac-terized by respect, honesty and service; assures that all unit members are held to similar standards and ethics. Manages the talents, strengths and behaviors of each individual in a diverse work group, while providing each employee with the opportunity to contribute to the goals of the unit. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Supervision is received from the Dean. Effective collaboration with other Associate/Assistant Deans and DEOs is necessary on a regular basis. Candidates are asked to provide a cover letter identifying how their qualifications match those of the position, a 1-2 page statement on challenges facing the research enterprise, as well as a curriculum vita.
10 years experience directing a nationally-recognized, extramurally-funded research program. ; Previous and current record of scholarship consistent with a tenured/tenure track appointment in the Carver College of Medicine. ; Experience in coordinating large research programs or program projects or the efforts of multiple principal investigators. ; Ability to formulate short-term and long-term strategic plans to address challenges faced by the research enterprise. ; Ability to provide leadership, and act as a change agent and consensus builder. ; Ability to identify and implement new cutting-edge methodologies. ; Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communications skills. ; Strong management and planning skills. ; Demonstrated experience in promoting a diverse work force ; Positive interactions with students, faculty and staff
Desirable Qualifications: ; Administrative or leadership experience in an academic medical center. ; Familiarity with the research enterprise and structure of different institutions. ; Experience formulating and leading large scale strategic initiatives.
