Job Summary
Brock University’s Department of Visual Arts, part of the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine & Performing Arts, invites applications for a probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Painting and Drawing.
Qualifications
Applicants should have an M.F.A or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence that inspires innovative approaches to painting and drawing. In recognizing the diverse ways that traditional media are integrated in contemporary practice, the Department of Visual Arts has identified this appointment as one aimed at further developing relationships between media and new ways of thinking about art. The successful candidate, therefore, will be someone who brings a range of creative and theoretical approaches to professional work. Courses that the successful candidate may be asked to teach include the first-year Foundation Studios, Drawing and Painting Courses as well as other courses relating to the area of expertise. Additionally, the candidate will be able to contribute to graduate programs in the Faculty of Humanities such as the MA program in Studies in Comparative Literatures and Arts and the new PhD program in Interdisciplinary Humanities. The candidate should have an established research/creation profile with an exhibition record demonstrative of professional standing, be conversant in contemporary methods, and be fluent in theoretical discourses informing contemporary art practice. The appointment will begin July 1, 2012.

The Department of Visual Arts offers BA Pass and BA Honours degrees. Students in the Visual Arts program at Brock can select whether they would like to major in Studio Art or in the History of Art & Visual Culture. In addition, the Department offers a concentration in Curatorial Studies and a concentration in Digital Media and Production.
