The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. In keeping with the mission of the University to provide teaching, research and public service of the highest quality, UC Merced offers research-centered and student-oriented educational opportunities at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels through three academic schools: Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences/Humanities/Arts.
The project will involve nanomaterial synthesis and interface engineering, writing papers describing the results of the evaluations and investigations, and supervising graduate and undergraduate assistants working on these projects. Projects are highly interdisciplinary. Appointees will have opportunities to work and interact with research groups in other universities, National Laboratories and industrial partner research laboratories. Occasional travel is required.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with recent PhD in Polymer Science or related fields. Intensive experience in polymer synthesis is essential. Hands-on experience with self-assembly is a plus and knowledge in 1D material synthesis is highly desirable. Candidates who are self-motivated, rigorous and responsible with a track record showing the ability to do independent research work are encouraged to apply.
